Ok so tomorrow's 17th July. How fast time flies.
So this project is really heavy. I mean, 35% of the whole grade? Certainly can't be treated lightly. The significance of it, however, did not affect everyone.
Overall, the project was tedious. Not difficult. The data entry was a killer. On top of that, some things have to be redone (or rather, entries have to be reposted) even with the slightest mistakes, such as wrong entry of the dates or amounts. This reminded me to be really careful and precise in data entry, so as to minimize unnecessary errors. Worst part of this project was that every step taken was filled with uncertainty. Since the software was totally new to me, I have to clarify my doubts with my peers or tutors occasionally to find a peace of mind. After completing the project, I felt that Accpac is an extremely useful tool as it is accurate and saves a lot of time, as compared to doing things manually. By just entering the entries and clicking “Post”, it will automatically be reflected in the GL. I learnt the fundamentals of using Accpac (within the CAS scope) and how it functions as an accounting software. The knowledge and skills that I’ve acquired will definitely help me in the future when I enter the workforce as an accountant.
Contributions?
I kicked off the project really early, before the term tests. For the first few visits to the lab, I felt that the progress of the project was really slow, as I had to keep flipping here and there to find the corresponding amounts, account numbers, etc. Therefore, I decided that I’ll prepare all the necessary details that have to be keyed into the system before going to the lab, such as a table to represent all address and contact details of A/R, noting down all account numbers beside the journal entries, etc. It saved me a lot of time as I only have to refer to the table instead of flipping through all the pages. I checked all the double entries, set up all 3 modules and keyed in every transaction. After finishing like 95% of the Accpac part, I had to find out how to settle the void cheque transaction and how to contra the year-end GST. It seemed really complicated to me at first but after some research, the void cheque transaction was pretty simple. And fortunately, the GST contra was not required in the project. Finally, all was completed. Extracted all relevant reports and did a year-end closing.
My group had countless meetings. I found out more about my project mates after this project.
- Jessica loves the outdoors.
- Yong Zhi is very sociable.
- Derek has a peace-loving and calm personality.
Finally, I will like to end off by saying that CAS is a very enriching subject and very relevant to prepare us for the future.
